Canon Rolls Out New DSLR’s on Autopilot and HD Ready Point-and-Shoot Cameras

By Katharine Czechowski

Starting next week, Cannon will introduce two new Rebel brand DSLR cameras for customers who want the DSLR experience with the guidance of a point-and-shoot, the EOS Rebel T3i and EOS Rebel T3.

Both models will include the new EOS Feature Guide, a step-by-step walkthrough camera settings guide for beginners, a slew of automatic shooting modes with “Basic Zones” where users can adjust ambience light settings and Scene Intelligent technology that helps to balance color saturation based on the subject matter being shot.

The Rebel T3i has a few more extras integrated than its T3 counterpart including Creative Filters, which can be applied to images after they have been shot without altering the original file, full HD capture at 1920 x 1080 resolution and a Movie Digital Zoom feature that provides additional zoom power without sacrificing quality. The only thing this camera doesn’t do is set up the shot for you but I’m sure Canon Engineers are working on technology for that in the future.

The 18 megapixel Rebel T3i will be available in a body-only (no lens) configuration at a retail price of $799.99 and will also be offered in 2 different kits, one with Canon’s new EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II zoom lens at $899.99 and the other with Canon’s EF-S 18-135mmf/3.5-5.6 IS zoom lens at an estimated price of $1099.99.

The Canon EOS Rebel T3 will be offered in a kit with Canon’s EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 II zoom lens at $599.99.

Canon also plans to release four new HD ready cameras for its PowerShot line with a few bells and whistles of their own. All four cameras will be equipped with Canon’s HS System that allows shooting in low light settings, the ability to shoot in 1080p HD video, New Movie Digest Mode and 32 Smart Auto Scenes.

Most notable of the bunch is the Canon PowerShot SX230 HS model boasts a GPS receiver that allows users to keep track of where photos were taken and view them on a map with included map utility software.

The new Canon PowerShot cameras are available in an array of colors depending on the model type. Pricing for each ranges from $199.99 to $349.99.
